Mary Stevenson - Garden Designer

Mary has been a freelance professional garden designer since 2001. But her experience goes back over 30 years...

Mary has gardened from childhood, and in her teens decided upon a career in Horticulture.

Following a year training as a gardener, Mary gained her degree in Horticulture from the respected Wye College, London University in 1973.

Her first job after graduating was as supervisor with Blakedown Landscapes, a large landscaping company in the West Midlands.

The work involved implementing large-scale planting schemes, from the new ATV centre in Birmingham, to motorway embankments.

After several years she moved to East Sussex to take up an appointment at Perryhill Nurseries in Hartfield, which then, as now, is a renowned plantsman's nursery.

A trained teacher, Mary has also worked in the Education Department at Wakehurst Place (Royal Botanic Gardens), teaching groups of visiting students.

In 2001 she created Mary Stevenson Garden Design in order to fulfil her lifelong ambition to be a garden designer.

Mary describes herself as a true plantswoman with experience within the landscape industry.

She loves what she does and derives great pleasure from the satisfaction of her clients.
